Cappella di San Sebastiano
This chapel situated along Via Lauretana, just outside the town, is dedicated to Saint Sebastian, a very popular saint, known as “wonder worker”, since as Saint Rocco, he was known as being able to expel the black plague.
The chapel was built by the entire community of Asciano, probably for having escaped or to exorcise such danger.
The frescoes dated late 1400s, preserved inside, host a very interesting “Assumption of the Virgin”, executed by Benvenuto Giovanni and his son Girolamo, painted with bright colours and full of characters, among whom it’s also represented a magnificent Saint Sebastian, pierced by arrows, symbol of his martyrdom.
