Church of Saint Joseph
The small church of Saint Joseph, located along the Lauretana Road, just outside the historical centre, built around 1676, hides an enigma not yet solved: on the altar wall, even if extremely damaged, an interesting fresco dated early 1500 is visible and it’s therefore relative to a preceeding structure. The central part representing “The Virgin of the Milk” was removed in the past and it’s now hosted in the Oratory of he Holy Cross next to the Cathedral of Saint Agatha.
But maybe what is more fascinating is the mystery about the author of the fresco: is it really a work by the exuberant protagonist , painter and artist of the time, Antonio Bazzi, known as Sodoma?
